All you need to know about Solar lights in winterJeff Florance
Can you use solar lights in the winter?
The answer is YES. During the winter, there is less sunlight, and this can affect the way solar lights operate.
You may be concerned about the way solar panels work during the winter, so we thought we would explain how to winter-proof your solar lights. The Solar panels that are on our products work by absorbing direct sunlight. The temperature does not affect how they work, as long as UV rays are hitting your panels.
How to winter-proof your solar lights
1. Face your panels east and/or west
It is essential to make the most of the sunlight you have during winter, facing your panels east or west-facing panels will be able to generate plenty of electricity during winter.
The sun sits lower during this time, meaning that facing your panels east or west will capture the most electricity of the winter sky.
2. Angle Them at 60°
While the best practice for facing Solar panels is 30°, you may want to reposition them to 60° during winter. Facing them this way will make sure you get the most sunshine during winter. After winter, you can then put them back at the default angle.
3. Keep Them Away From Shadows
Winter may introduce new shadows, and if possible, you will want to relocate your panels. This will significantly increase the performance of your lights.
4. Keep Them Clean
During the winter, you may want to clean the dust and grime off your panels as this can reduce your efficiency and block out the limited sunlight.
