PROJECT OBJECTIVES
This was a two stage project, we had to:
1. Replace faulty mains powered lights on existing posts with commercial grade solar streetlights.
2. Install pathway lights on poles for safety around the bowling green pathway.

Problem
The client had some break-ins at the complex and the police gave them a report that stated “poor lighting was a likely contributing factor” and this should be addresses quickly. The body corporate got a quote to rewire all street lighting for the complex. The quotation was exceptionally expensive due to excavation of existing roads, paths, and gardens. The available budget did not stretch for this type of work. Blackfrog Solar was consulted and worked through several options to provide the best option at the best price.

Process
Blackfrog Solar Engaged SRK Electrical to decommission and make safe all existing light posts. Blackfrog Solar painted and installed post extensions to raise the height to optimize light distribution. This was done using custom designed metal barrel adaptors only available through BlackFrog Solar. Some poles needed to be completely replaced due to corrosion and some new posts needed to be installed. All in one solar lights were installed, tested and checked for correct light distribution after dark.

Solution
The Basalt40 is a modern slimline all in one solar streetlight with estimated 18yrs life expectancy. The Strand30 is well suited for small roundabouts and the Olympus2800 is the perfect pathway light. All these lights have a 3-year warranty and Blackfrog Solar provides after sales support, including battery replacement. Replacing mains powered outdoor lighting with quality solar lights is a cost-effective solution, especially when existing wiring is aging and costly to replace. Not to mention there is no running cost other than a new battery every five to eight years.
